# Updating

Run the setup wizard again on the folder you already have. It keeps your add-ons and settings and only asks about anything new since your last setup.

## How versions work

There's one version number for the whole set. Every release has the latest core and every add-on, so you never mix versions of c3r and the MDT. Release notes are on the [changelog](/changelog).

## Update with the wizard

1. Run `c3rsetup.exe` and pick **Update an existing [c3r_core] folder**.
2. Point it at your current `[c3r_core]` folder (a copy on your PC is fine).
3. It shows only the settings that are new, with defaults filled in.
4. Replace the `[c3r_core]` folder on your server with the updated one.
5. Restart the server.

> [!WARNING]
> Replace the whole folder. Don't copy new files over the old ones: a file that was deleted in the new release would stay behind and can break things.

## Your data

Everything in the database stays: people, vehicles, reports, phone data. New tables and columns are added on start, and nothing is removed.

## Config you edited by hand

The wizard writes the settings it asks about. If you changed other values directly in a config file, make a copy of that file before updating and put your values back afterwards. The in-game editor, `/c3rconfig`, writes into the same files, so those changes count as hand edits too.

> [!TIP]
> If something breaks after an update, try the new release with its default config first. If that works, the problem is in a setting you carried over.
